Privacy policy

What we collect

  • Forms you send. When you use the contact form or "Report an update", we store what you type: your message, and your name and email if you give them. We use it only to answer you and to fix pages.
  • Server logs. Like every website, our server records requests, including your IP address, for security and to stop abuse. Logs are kept for 30 days. To limit form spam we store a one-way hash of your IP address with the form, never the address itself.
  • Your location. When you tap "Hot springs near me", your browser asks for permission. If you allow it, your coordinates are sent with that one search request to sort springs by distance. We do not store them.

Cookies

We use only a session cookie that protects forms from cross-site attacks. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. If we ever add analytics or ads, we will update this page first.

Third parties

  • Cloudflare delivers our pages as a content delivery network and sees your requests like any network provider.
  • The map tile provider receives the map image requests your browser makes when you open a map.
  • Links to official sites, agencies and Wikimedia Commons lead to sites with their own privacy policies.

How long we keep data

Server logs: 30 days. Form messages: as long as needed to answer and fix the page, then deleted within 12 months. You can ask us to delete your message sooner.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to us at [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days.
