How we verify hot spring information

Where the list comes from

We start from open map and knowledge data (OpenStreetMap and Wikidata), add springs listed in public references, and remove duplicates by location and name. So far: 388 places reviewed, 15 published.

Where the facts come from

For each spring we read its official website, land agency pages, and reference pages. Search engines help us find those pages, but we never cite a search result itself.

How a fact gets accepted

Every fact must come with the exact sentence from the page it was found on, and our system checks that the sentence really exists on that page. Numbers must appear in that sentence. Facts that conflict with each other are dropped. If we cannot confirm a detail, it does not appear.

What we leave out

Private springs without public access, spas that only heat tap water, and places that have closed for good.

How we write the pages

Pages are written with the help of AI from the verified facts only, then checked by software for any number or name that is not in the verified data. Pages that fail are rewritten or held back.

Keeping it current

Prices, hours and open status are rechecked about every 90 days. Each page shows the date its facts were last verified.

Sources we respect

We follow website rules for automated access, credit OpenStreetMap and every photographer, and only use photos with open licenses.

Help us fix mistakes

Conditions change fast after storms, fires and floods. Use "Report an update" on any page.
